Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae has shed light on her strict personal hygiene habits, revealing why she avoids eating at other people’s homes.
Speaking during a recent interview with media personality Madame Joyce, the Sad Girls Love Money hitmaker explained that her views on cleanliness strongly influence how she lives—and eats.
“When I go to other people’s homes, I don’t eat,” she stated. “I went to a barbecue, I saw the owner of the house washing lettuce in their bathroom sink. That was when I said, I will never eat at anybody’s house. And thank God that he let me see that thing because I was waiting for the burger.”
Amaarae emphasized that she takes the separation of household spaces seriously, especially when it comes to food and hygiene.
“I don’t like mixing bathroom and bedroom things. If you’re brushing your teeth, stay in the bathroom, don’t come into the bedroom. Some people walk around while brushing. I think that it is disgusting,” she said.
She continued by stressing how particular she is about cleanliness in her own home. “If you’re done eating, throw the toothpick in the kitchen trash, don’t bring it upstairs and throw it in the bedroom trash or in the bathroom trash. I find that disgusting.”
The singer also pointed out that she enforces certain rules in her home and expects visitors to respect them. “I like my home taken care of in certain ways, so you can’t come to my house and you don’t abide by my rules.”
Amaarae concluded by criticising the use of a single sponge for both plates and wine glasses, calling it unhygienic.
“Don’t use the same sponge for plates and wine glasses. It’s so bush. Use separate sponges for plates and glasses because if you don’t do that, your glasses are going to smell like food,” she said.
Her comments have sparked conversations online, with many agreeing that food hygiene and personal cleanliness should never be taken lightly.
