Interestingly, it has become prevalent among the youngsters especially among the male folks in today’s world that accumulating assets and having fat accounts are green lights for bliss, as well as satisfaction in marriage. But, however, this notion by experiential fact has proven to be false and an illusion because looking at the world divorce rate chart, it is evident that the rich are having more divorces lately.
However, judging from the marriages of many billionaires around the world citing Bill and Melinda Gates, it is seen that money or assets are in no way prerequisite for a happy home.
If money was to make one happy in marriage, then Melinda Gates wouldn’t part ways with her husband after 27 years of supposed conjugal bliss, which unarguably shocked the world greatly but came not as a surprise to the 400 fellow members of the top billionaires group . “They are not oblivious of the fact that money, even truck loads of it, can’t purchase happiness. You’re still dealing with the same human emotions and the same human problems”, Says Michael Mossery, an associate solicitor at Aronson Mayefefsky a New York family law firm that runs legal business for the big guns in America.
Conversely, according to Forbes, American’s richest billionaires get divorced at similar rates as the average citizens. Forbes found after examining the relationship of the 50 richest people in the United States that these billionaires have a net worth of at least $13.2 billion, and have entered into marriage as much as 72 times, 35 of which ended in divorce putting their rates at 49% in line with the 40% and approximately 50% rate within the general country population.
Moreso, the worlds most expensive divorces where all from the same stream of the world’s billionaires club. In Nigeria for example, the narrative holds sway with loads of news on the dissolution of marriages bombarding the news media especially among rich celebrities and big business moguls, justifying the fact that money alone doesn’t automatically guarantee a blissful marital life
In conclusion, financial security is undeniably a major need in marriages, but building a marriage around riches alone cannot survive the challenges that it brings as other myriad of needs like Leadership provision by the man, Emotional security, commitment, fidelity, forgiveness etc among a host of other values would greatly guarantee and sustain happiness in marriages thereby reducing the chances of high divorce rate amongst the rich.
